Lift Lobby (Orkney)

Anecdotal Evidence

Tumim Prendergast is an artistic collaborative between Orkney based artists Matilda Tumim and Christopher Prendergast.  Making art together is a natural extension of their shared life. For them, collaboration is a symbiotic process and it is their common intention to provoke thoughts about the nature of beauty through their artwork.

Tumim Prendergast will be working with Glaitness School on Orkney and staff and patients of the Children's Hopsital to create new work for the lift lobby.

In this piece of work, , the artists used images and marks that came out of working with patients and staff at this hospital - and also from consulting children at Glaitness Primary School in Orkney.  They invited children and staff to make doodles  of their favourite things. After a long period of making preliminary sketches and collages the artists started working their our studio on small canvases. We used acrylic paint and we just allowed our minds and hands to wander along with the paint as they worked. If you look hard you will spot two panels that describe cuddly toys covered in buttons and sewing. The artists love the poetry of Edward Lear, Spike Milligan and Dr Seuss and hope this piece of work has things in common with these writers - a bit silly but serious too?
