High Depandency Unit (HDU)
Elgin artist Lynne Strachan of Curious Cranberry has worked with patients and young people from Inverurie Studio 77 to create a new look to the waiting area of the High Dependency Unit. Studio 77 are a young peoples art group organised by Penny Downes who works as a youth worker with Aberdeenshire Council. Studio 77 worked with Lynne to create images which were designed to attract all ages. Lynne also worked with patients on the wards to create the quirky people shapes which form the main focus of the piece. These people have been made up into stuffed dolls which are framed in Perspex.
Studio 77 painted three large canvasses as part of their work with Lynne, these are sited on the link wall between High Dependency and the day case Unit.
We would like to thank Studio 77 and Penny Downes from Aberdeenshire Council for their help with the creation of this project.
Graphic Novel:
Lynne came into in the hospital over the summer and autumn of 2008 to work with the older patients to create a graphic novel. This novel is now available to older patients on admisson to give them a flavour of the Children's Hospital from an adolescent point of view.
